In the last few weeks we have had so many “Snow Days” off of school that our heads were spinning, and our toddlers feet didn’t stop moving! Cabin fever was setting in like nobody’s business, so my husband and I decided something needed to be done. A Family Night!
We needed to do something different than the usual Family Night we have once a week, because movies won’t release enough energy, but yet board games might be danced on instead of played with.
SO…. I had a empty canvas that I got 50% off at a craft store sitting around collecting dust. We took that bad boy and made a Family Painting Night!
It needed to be something simple since our little ones are just learning to be creative, and we didn’t want to defeat the purpose of “fun”. So we dove in to good ol’ fashioned finger painting. We taped the letter K to our canvas (K is for Kendig), and dropped colored paint all over.
Isn’t that a masterpiece? ha! I’m kidding… Next we had them use their fingers to play around with the paint. Because we knew we wanted to
waste spend time on this, we prepped with naked bodies and a open garbage bag on the table.
They were very cautious at first (my Son has strange unsure feelings about texture), but it didn’t take long for them to get crazy.
Once they covered the entire canvas and were happy with their painting skills AKA: Mom and Dad were tired of cleaning paint out of noses, and the artists were getting distracted, we cleaned them up and started to lift up the tape. (It is easier to take the tape off when the canvas is still wet)
NOW… doesn’t that look nice?! They were so pleased with the work they had done!
Overall this was a great activity to try with them. Not only do we now have a great piece of artwork, but a sweet memory of what was “The Harsh Winter of 2014/15”.
