A while back I went to the thrift shop and picked up some items that I could make into “grubby” Primitive/ Vintage decor. After playing around with a few ideas, I came up with some really unique, and pretty fab new pieces of decor!
It’s amazing how simple it is to dress up something old and make it look like it ALWAYS was that way. Like this gorgeous book. All I need to add was some fabric and a small trinket!
Paint- black or brown
Fine Sand (optional)
Flat finish Mod Podge
Scented Oil (optional)
Thrift store finds
Step 1: Paint your thrift store finds in a black or brown paint. I added some sand or cinnamon to give it a dirty textured look.
Step 2: Once those are dry there are two options of applying the cinnamon depending on the look you want.
Option 1: Mix the cinnamon, scent, and Mod Podge together. The amount totally depends on what your applying it to. Once they are mixed together, apply to object… and let dry.
Option 2: Mix together your scent and Mod Podge. The ratio also is determined by what object you are “grubbing”. Once it is covered but not dry, sprinkle on the cinnamon. Or roll into the cinnamon on a plate. (just like if you were breading chicken) I use the latter method if covering candles.
Step 3: Allow to dry, and apply any other decorative objects to the piece.
I hope these crafts have inspired you to whip up some of your own DIY Vintage Decor! They truly are so easy, and can make such a statement!
