As may of you know by now, I have been participating in #AVeryVintageHoliday Instagram Challenge for the past few weeks. This week we are incorporating a Very Vintage Holiday Mantel. I was pretty stoked for this one because having just moved recently, the excitement of decorating for the holiday’s in a new home is pretty exhilarating!
I realized while finding a new home for my old decorations, that I actually have a MUCH bigger home than I ever had… which means… I need to go shopping!!!
In the meantime, I was able to re-use this old window that I have always placed on our mantel. It stays all year round, and I usually incorporate a wreath of some sort to dress it up. I was also able to use some of other great “oldies but goodies” from the holiday decoration stash.
I love incorporating these old train stocking holders. The hubby and I received these as a wedding gift, and have always loved them! I also used some old mason jars, and filled them with vintage inspired scented potpourri. I think they help to fill the space nicely, but yet still give a nice reflection of the lights within the mantel.
Along the back of the mantel I placed a berry vine that matches nicely with the wreath. Placed in the center of the spotlight is an old vintage lantern that I scored at our Church’s Annual Basement sale. (I also use this baby all year round!)
On either end of this LARGE mantel, I placed small vintage trinkets, like a simple “Charlie Brown” tree that is adorned with some sweet little gingerbread star ornaments, and some handmade lamb ornaments that hold a sweet beeswax candle. (see top image)
I was really happy with how this simple mantel turned out. I was able to only use what I currently have, which is also sympathetic to the seasonal wallet. It can be simple to incorporate everyday items from around the house into a centerpiece. Sometimes it just takes a little re-arranging of decor items, to create a fresh new look for an old piece.
I do look forward to going shopping after the Thanksgiving holiday to find some new Christmas items to add to my current collection. With our new home, there is so much potential to create a true winter wonderland!
So stay tuned, because I will be creating a new look for all my holiday decor this season! I’ll be using both old and new to really create an inviting space for this amazing celebration! Keep an eye out for my Holiday Home Tour that will be going #ontheblog the first week of December!
