This week I’m partnering up with some incredible bloggers to show how we get our homes ready for the Christmas holiday! Each blogger carries their own uniqueness, and some are quite frankly BREATHTAKING!
I have to be honest when I say I’m a little nervous! We moved to our home in July this year, and even though its been a few months… We are still getting used to it! We are taking our time, room by room, to create a space that says, “home”. However, we still don’t have it finished! So when it came time to decorate, I wasn’t sure where to start! We don’t even have many things on the walls yet! *GULP*.
But.. with no further adieu. Here is our home!
Here is our home! With a light dusting of snow, it really brings the Christmas magic to life! I can’t wait to hang lights for the first time ever, and really create a wonderland!
I just love the way the curb appeal of this house. In fact, the curb appeal was one of the biggest selling points for us! Even though I always said I would never live in a another yellow house… this one really was calling our names!
You’ll see throughout the rest of the home, that I really adore Snowmen! They just brings such cheer to a space, and with Christmas only being a slice of the winter, a Snowman is more practical than a Santa. These cuties were made by a local business! So not only are they so stinkin’ cute, but they are also handmade by a local family.
Come on in, take off your shoes, and make yourself at home!
Here is our entryway! There really isn’t much space for this, because the front door opens right up into the living area, and the stairway. So I tried to create something cozy, and practical. The vintage cooler that is below the table is actually our shoe storage!
I love mixing the different texture elements. Woods, metals, and canvas all place nicely together.
These stairs… SWOON! Our home was built-in the early 1920’s, and some of the pieces in the home are still original! This staircase is one of them. In some places it does need some TLC repair, but I loooove the charm of it! It is the first thing you see when you walk in the door, and who couldn’t fall in love with a home that welcomed you with that!?
The rich woods in this home really give such an elegant feel to the space. Someday, when the kids are older, I would love to finish the steps and carry that wood the whole way up!
Here is our living room! Keep in mind, we still have two little ones under 5… So our home is VERY kid friendly with cozy sofas, bold pieces. I really try to bring in some of the unique textures of winter, as well as the vibrant colors of the season. This old cookie tin (above) was a really lucky find at a local thrift store. This tin, coupled with my old trunk coffee table really bring some old world charm to the room.
And here it is folks! My “grown-up” tree! This tree really means so much to me. The ornaments, and the tree itself, were a gift to me from my late grandmother. She was so excited to help me purchase my first tree… and then sadly passed away right after that first Christmas. It has been 5 years now, and I still think of her with every placement of the ornament!
Below this memory filled tree, is a vintage tree skirt that my Great-Grandmother actually made! The colors and details really are a sweet addition. This year, the hubby decided the kids were ready to put up an electric train! The train was a gift he received when he was very young, so to have it placed under the tree for our own children to enjoy is bittersweet!
This is my favorite ornament on the tree. It is a glass bulb with what looks like spun silk inside. It gives such a breathtaking sparkle when near the lights, and create an elegant look to the tree.
Here is another great post I created showing off some of the pieces to my mantel. I did add a few changes, but the lantern, train, and old window are still the staples. Take a look!
The dining room is our last stop! This is a well used room, because we do sit down for dinner everyday together as a family. We spend a lot of our time here in the evenings! It is filled with vintage furnishings.. some are hand-me-downs, and some are actually family heirlooms!
This photo also gives you a great shot of how the floor boards lay. I looove the pattern how it spirals to the center of the room. It is such a unique look! The windows in the front of the house are also so breathtaking. Practically floor to ceiling! We learned that the gentleman who built the house actually had french doors in the place of those windows and would open the whole front of the home up! They certainly give an added charm.
I love adding remade creations of vintage decor. This candied fruit garland is a great example of that. The colors just pop against our “rust” wall, and truly dress up the room.
A cranberry garland finishes off these greens so nicely. I placed my nutcracker collection on this credenza so that they are front and center in the dining room. You’ll have to check back again soon to see how I am going to style my Christmas Tablescape!
In the dining room, I have what I call.. The “Charlie Brown Kids Tree”! Call me selfish, but I love keeping my traditional themed tree in the living room. But with two kiddos, homemade ornaments are a given. So we have this cutie! I placed all my vintage ornaments, and the ornaments that were gifted to my husband and I growing up. As well as our own children’s ornaments!
Here are just a few examples of ornaments. This sweet little guy and the fat Santa were from my grandmothers tree at one point. Then there is my first Christmas ornament (don’t zoom in for the date!), as well as my kindergarten handmade ornament! Check out that adorable garland! It is a string of popcorn and cranberries! I placed the tree inside of a replica coal bucket, mixed with the opposite texture of burlap.
I truly hope that you enjoyed your stay! We are by no means done getting settled in our “new” home.. but we certainly feel the warm and cozy Holiday Spirit around us!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! May the season be fully of blessings and good cheer! Come back anytime! xo.
