Hi everyone! Today we have a guest blogger stopping by! Danielle from DIY Danielle is going to show off how she helped her son become more vocal by making a DIY Word Board Book. You’re going to LOVE this simple DIY! It is really quite adorable. Let’s see what she has to say!
My oldest son had some speech delays and we worked with a speech therapist when he was little. She recommended using books with photos of objects to teach him words. I decided to go one better and take pictures of items that he loved and make my own board book for him. This has been a very loved item in our home as the kids have both enjoyed seeing their own toys in the book.
This is a simple project which is what makes it so great. You need to decide what type of book that you’d like to create.
Here are some ideas:
- Favorite Things (Items around the house): Teach your child new words or use this for an older children to recognize and read words in English or another language.
- Favorite People: Use this to help children remember the names of family and friends. We have a long distance family so this was helpful for us.
Supplies listed below may include affiliate links to the products.
- Board Book
- Mod Podge
I have more details and a video tutorial of the process on my blog if you’re interested: http://www.diydanielle.com/2013/03/favorite-things-board-book.html
Thanks so much Danielle K. for giving me the opportunity to share my project! I hope you all liked it!
