Welcome back to week 2 of the #oneroomchallenge! Last week I shared with you my plans for our Master Bedroom, and the out pour of other bloggers support and love has been amazing! I’m realizing that this challenge that Linda from Calling it Home has created is not just an opportunity for networking and creating amazing spaces, but it’s a way that bloggers can band together and shower each other with support! There certainly is something amazing about blogger friends.
So last week I created some inspiration boards for what we are trying to accomplish with our Master Bedroom. Make sure to check it out if you haven’t yet! I’m especially excited about the color scheme and wall sconces!
The start of this project took a lot of elbow grease. I have to make a confession!!!
My hubby and I actually started this project 2 years ago when we first moved in, but have yet to do anything else with the space! Here is what we did: paint prep, painting, and carpet. We also swapped out those mirrored doors asap so that it would all get replaced prior to bringing in the current furniture setup we have now, which really is none.
Let me remind you what the before looked like!
We kicked off running by striping out the old carpet and layers of half rotted padding. (yuck)
Being that the room is smaller we decided to do the dreadful… painting of the woodwork. I know, this can be taboo in an older home, but we really wanted to create a more open airy look. After we took off all the doors we started sanding the woodwork. We didn’t strip them down past the current stain, we just took off the outer gloss layer so that it gave the new paint something to stick to.
After cleaning away all the nasty dust… It was time to get painting! Here are the colors we chose:
For the woodwork and doors we picked out a white of all whites!
For the walls we wanted a neutral. Something that would offer a good base to whatever decor style we chose to go with.
To get ahead of the game we had the carpet installed as well! We went with a top of the line carpet padding, and a “medium” quality for the actual carpet. Our thought on this was that once the kids are older we can rip up the carpet and finish the AMAZING original hardwood that we discovered under the carpet. Here is what we decided for our carpet selection:
Here is where we are now. We are excited to have this clean canvas to get the party started! Take a good look this week, because next week starts the fun work of adding the details that will make this space great!
Compared to our before, the room feels bigger and brings more sunlight in! I love that we still used some of the original solid wood doors and glass door knobs. I think I am most excited to get some color in this room! Next week I’m going to be showing you some of the furniture pieces that I’ll be working with! A twist of romance and functionality… you wont want to miss this reveal!
And don’t forget to browse the other ORC spaces!! They are so amazing so far!
